| Main Hall |
Main Hall, one of the few
original buildings on the campus of Hinds Community College, is listed on
the National Register of Historic Places. Main Hall was erected shortly
after the turn of the century to house women students attending Hinds
Agricultural High School.
Prior to 1925, Hinds Junior College did not exist - only Hinds Agricultural High School. The original campus of the Agricultural High School consisted of four to five buildings: a women's dormitory, a men's dormitory, an administration and classroom building, and a barn. Main Hall was built in 1926 when the Agricultural High School officially became Hinds Junior College. The dormitory to house women was known as Main Hall and the dormitory to house men was later known as Shangri-La. The men's dormitory was demolished during the 1970s so Main Hall is the only surviving dormitory. |
