Belmont Baptist Church
Belmont Baptist Church was first established on the Dry Grove Road south of Raymond in about 1840. The congregation first met in a structure called a brush arbor, a simple structure made from branches and twigs fastened together with strings, wire and rope. However simple, these people served their God untiringly. During the period between 1845 and 1865, the Brush Harbor and Palestine Church served as the only meeting places for these people who, during this time, were without a leader.

In the latter part of 1867, under the leadership of Rev. Vance, the group of believers named their congregation the BELMONT MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH. In 1897, the church purchased three acres of land from Bro. William McArthur for the sum of $24. The frame structure was completed in 1897.

The church has had many face lifts over its 133 year history. On September 26, 1936, the church purchased its rist piano. The orginal frame structure was remodeled in 1935 and the church was rebuilt in 1943. In 1972, a fellowship hall, kitchen, classrooms and indoor plumbing were added; carpeting was installed; robes, church furniture, and organ and hymnals were purchased; and outside baptismal pool was constructed and a concrete parking lot was poured.

In 1988, the dream of relocating and building a new edifice was finally realized. Ground breaking ceremonies were held on September 25, 1988 for the new church on Highway 18, on three acres donated by Sister Alberta Smith Drone. Today, the church vibrant with many ministries. The music ministry has been supplemented with a Youth Choir. Other added auxiliaries include the Junior Matrons, the Young Misses Outreach Ministry, the Christian Training Union, the Nurse Aides, Big Brothers Outreach and Big Sisters Outreach. Other active auxiliaries include the Sunday School, Church Choir and the Usher's Board, the Deacon's and Mother's Boards.
